Cactus, water, and wine-stained rocks
Even the rocks near Cerro Solo have a special quality, with deep port-wine colors penetrating into brown and white mottled rock. The deep purple color contrasts with the unique green of the golden-spined cactus, Bergerocactus emoryi.

In this drainage, at least two species occur that are found nowhere else. The local ejido has built a dam upstream, and the future of this area is uncertain at best.
