New York spring colors
Another plant found only in northwest Baja California is Trompo, or Aesculus parryi. It is particularly adapted to the climate, producing leaves in the fall when the rains start, and then quickly losing its leaves when the rains end—as early as January.

Trompo produces its “fall colors” in the spring, showing how the plants here are closely adapted to warm wet winters and long dry summers.
