Punta Mazo, San Quintín
Punta Mazo at San Quintín has some of the best examples of natural coastal dunes in the Californias. Because of a lack of disturbance and of invasive species, the dune and bay systems at San Quintín serve as models for the restoration of nature elsewhere.
In 2000, a coalition of environmental organizations and citizens were able to keep a massive and inappropriate tourist development from being approved at Punta Mazo. The land is still without protected status, in spite of the efforts of many Mexican citizens.
